The University of Miami Hurricanes defeated the Lafayette College Leopards 75-54 in the first round of the East Regionals at the Fleet Center in Boston for theHurricanes FIRST EVER NCAA Tournament victory ! Junior forward Johnny Hemsley hit a school record NINE 3-pointers, in 12 attempts, and finished with 31 points to pace the 10th ranked Canes ! The victory was Miami's 23rd of the season for UMSHoF Member and 1999 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Leonard Hamilton's team, tying the then school record for most victories in a season. The team featured 1999 BIG EAST Player of the Year, UMSHoF member Tim James !
